10-11-14 – Deadlift for Hope
Today’s meet was an awesome event to be a part of. Deadlift for Hope is a deadlift only meet that was put together by our mentors, Matt & Julia Ladewski. The proceeds of the meet were donated to Hope Kids, a charity that benefits children with terminal illnesses. It was wonderful to see people come together for a great cause!
There were 13 lifters that entered the meet that represented HPF! I was proud to see our members perform on the platform. There were many personal records that were made and lessons learned today. Both of which made people appreciate the physical, mental and technical work that goes in a seemingly easy looking lift. The camaraderie of our team and everyone else under the roof on The Region Barbell Club was amazing
My lifts went well. I ended up pulling a personal record of 525 lbs. 500 lbs was a milestone for the past couple of years and I am happy that I surpassed it. My technique was solid but Matt Ladewski gave me pointers to make it even better. I have to learn to keep my lats even tighter throughout my lift to ensure that there is pounds left on the platform.
It was a great experience! After the meet there was a barbeque! We enjoyed each others company while enjoying a well deserved meal. It was cool being around some of the top lifters in the world and being able to just enjoy the nice day. Being that it was Julia’s birthday we all sang happy birthday to her and enjoyed some cake, some more than others haha. The meet helped raise more that $2,000!!! I am looking forward to taking part in the next Deadlift for Hope!
