10-4-14 Max Effort Squat
Today was a great day for a heavy squat session. Brandon Smitley came with Michael Tanner and his crew from Purdue Barbell. There was a lot that was learned from all parties. Squatting with one of the best in the world pushed me to push myself a little extra. I have been taking it easy lately since my back issue, but it has been feeling stronger with every session.
The goal of the day was to stay as tight as I could from set up until I placed the bar back in the rack. I wanted to keep as much pressure off my lower back as possible. I felt explosive until the weight got to 455 lbs but it was manageable. The bar path wasn’t a smooth as it usually is but I’m sure it’s due to lack of reps recently. My upper back and overall body tightness felt good, but it showed differently when I reviewed the videos.
It was great having the guys come and train at HPF. Their energy and thirst for knowledge will get them far in this sport. Brandon has always been an inspiration to myself, as well as others at HPF. It pushes us to keep moving forward and aspire to have the success that he has in the sport.
