2-27-15 – “Do You Even Lift?”
My training logs have been MIA as of recently, but I still do get in training sessions when I can. I have been asked numerous times recently by our members “Do you still lift?” To answer everyone’s question, YES, but a little differently than I used to.
” You have so much free time and you own a gym. You can train whenever you want!”
This statement always make me laugh inside because I can see how people would think that but it is far from the truth. As our business grows, finding time to train how I did in the past just doesn’t happen any more. To keep growing our business, Gina and I have to wake up early. By the time a majority of the people we know hit the snooze button for the first time, I have already trained and my wife Gina has completed a great amount of business related work.
“Why don’t you guys get more sleep?”
“Why don’t you go out any more?”
“What you’re doing isn’t healthy!”
The answer to those questions and statement are simple. It is because we are VERY PASSIONATE for what we do! When you find a passion, you run with it, learn on the way and never look back. I train people not because I loving lifting weights, but I have a passion for teaching!!!
Most people don’t know this about me, but I have been teaching from a young age. I was responsible for teaching my craft and mindset in martial arts to people who wanted to be successful in the art. The people I taught had great success in what they did. I took my passion for teaching and went to college to be an elementary school teacher. Through trial and error, I found out that route was not for me. Being involved in athletics my entire life, I knew what I wanted to be around all the time and that was success stories, athletes and the weight room! I knew the preparation it took to be successful athletically, not only physically, but mentally. I wanted to be the one to teach people how to get there! After graduating college I wanted to use pursue my passion and education to make a difference. What better place than in my own community?!
Fast forward, HPF has grown from the dinner tray in the corner of someone elses gym (Finn, D, Evan, Brooke, Jeff, Kyle, Janusz, you know what I’m talking about) to a beautiful strength & conditioning facility that is featured on Elitefts!!! There is no better feeling than being involved in someone’s success story. Exposing one’s potential is what we do. Having members who are driven, caring, hard working and passionate for what they do is icing on the cake! I am very lucky to be able to share my passion with so many people. The crazy thing about it is that this is only the beginning.
So, the reason that Gina and I don’t get much sleep, go out any more or care if someone thinks what we’re doing is “unhealthy” is because we are in the pursuit of touching many more lives to help them expose their potential. The reason why I don’t train like I used to is because I would much rather teach someone else to be strong than pursue my own PRs. Like Mark Watts, Director of Education for Elitefts said, “Being strong (for a coach) feeds your ego, getting others strong feeds your family.” The more I am able to “feed my family” the more people we can impact! We have the platform to make a difference in people’s lives who don’t even step foot in HPF!! That is very powerful! This “expands” our 2,500 sq ft facility to a facility that knows no boundaries! We are very excited for what the future holds for HPF, our members and the lives we will touch. Keep watching!!!
