3-8-14 – Bench: Benefit and Blessings
Week two of bench went well today. Everything felt great, came up pretty easy I thought. My accessories were good and felt like they took a while to finish. That may have been because I was distracted by some things… that happens when we try to train during business hours. Gotta do what you gotta do though. The only accessory I am definitely changing in my next cycle are the DB extensions; they don’t feel too good on my elbows.
We have a benefit to attend this evening for my family’s non-profit organization, The Thomas Cellini Huntington’s Foundation (TCHF). You can find more info on them here: http://www.homeopathyplanet.com/TCHF/ This is their 9th annual fundraiser dinner, where they collect donations to give assistance to families with Huntington’s disease by way of donated household goods, transportation services, construction services, medical supplies, and so on. Thomas Cellini is my mother’s cousin, who started showing symptoms of Huntington’s disease in 1986 and is still alive today, although he is almost completely disabled. His wife Barbara and he started the foundation in 2005 and it’s been going strong ever since. It’s amazing to see how much they’ve impacted people’s lives with the services they provide to patients and their families. Huntington’s disease is a terrible thing to go through and the children of those diagnosed have a 50% chance of developing the disease. Mike and I are always willing to support a great cause, as we will continue to support TCHF! After attending these dinners year after year, I always come away feeling grateful for my own health. Having watched both of my parents pass on from terminal illnesses, I count my stars, hoping that I can live longer than they did, just 45 and 54 years. This is one of those times to remember something that Girls Gone Strong said: body movement is a privilege and we should honor our body by moving it as often as we can. Great way to spend a Saturday evening with my husband, and I get to spend some time with my family as well!
