2-17-14 – Max Effort Incline Bench Press
I woke up this morning with the intention of coming in early to train. After waking up my shoulders felt beat up from yesterday’s squat session with the SS Yoke Bar. I felt that I wouldn’t be able to give it my all with what I originally had planned for today. I decided to call off my training session and save it for the next day.
As the day went on the better my shoulders felt and the more I wanted to train. It was getting towards the end of the night and I just went with it. Incline bench press was the movement of choice. Every set went very well. It still felt heavier than what it should have because my shoulders were still a little tender. I need to squeeze my back tighter to have more control with this lift. I felt my elbows coming out wide too soon when the weight got heavier. I will learn to control that. I was happy with my max of 345 lbs. It was a grinder but it locked out.
My accessories went very well too. I wanted to do things I haven’t done in a long time so I threw some band exercises when I had the chance. These exercises feel easy in the beginning but as the set goes on it gets more difficult. I will keep this in my program and see how it works out in the future. It was a pretty good training session tonight. Thanks to Jesse Kurth, Danny Flood and Aaron Harvey who helped push me tonight.
