2-22-14 – 600 lb Raw Squat for Two Reps

Today was an electric day at HPF. There was a great group squatters to work with. We were feeding off each other and great things were happening. I knew today was going to be a great day just the way everything was happening. One of our members who has been working is ass off achieved a PR squat and it got me extra motivated to push harder. Thank you Bryan Finn for pushing me.

All of the warm ups felt light. One of my partners, Steve Wagner, kept in my ear and reminded me to keep my knees out as I was coming out of the hole. Doing this kept pressure off of my knees and put me in a better position to bring the bar up. Everything felt very stable throughout all my sets.

I have been stuck at 585 lbs the past couple times of squatting heavy so I decided I would go heavier. I NEEDED TO GO HEAVIER! We loaded 600 lbs on the bar and I was ready to take on the challenge. After unracking the bar I knew EVERYTHING had to be tight in order for me to successfully complete the lift. I inhaled a huge amount of air, pushed my stomach against my belt and brought the weight down. As I was pressing up I started to see stars. Kind of like little white lightening bugs flying all around. I don’t know about anyone else but I love that feeling! The first rep was a challenge but I decided to do another rep. I remained tight, hit the hole and struggled to get it up but it finally did lock out. Even more lightening bugs were flying around. I LOVE THIS SHIT!!!

After a downset of 505 lbs for 4 reps I wanted to deadlift, nothing too heavy. I did only 3 reps during my sets but to get extra work in I lowered the bar to the ground slowly, advice from Steve Wagner. After my deadlifts I did some sets of reverse hypers and shut it down. It was a good session and I was spent. The training environment was amazing. This is why I love HPF! Everyone brings the best out of each other. What we have is truly one of a kind. Thank you to my guys who helped me today!
