11-15-13 – Deadlifts

Wow! If there is one lift that puts you in your place it is the deadlift. Tonight I experienced how the deadlift will check your attitude. With stress adding up I knew the barbell would be great therapy. With my mind on a lot of things already every little thing would bother me. The fact that the music was too loud, I didn’t have my belt that I always train with, etc.
My mental strength was being tested tonight. I tried to focus on the task at hand but nothing was working. My warm ups felt heavy. My last set of 405 usually comes up fast and powerful but I barely was able to finish my set. My frustration is shown at the end of my last set.

Weird thing is that after that failure of a set I felt a lot better! This relieved my stress and I thought to myself, “Everything will be alright.” I finished my session with light stiff leg deadlifts and called it a night. The barbell taught me another good lesson tonight. You have to focus on your goal and not let anything take you away from it if you want it to be accomplished. Lesson well learned.
